The Things We Do For Love.

-->

You probably don’t even notice it. You met a guy or girl in a local dining establishment or a possible heated and noisy dance hall or just a boring meeting where your eyes met and you were curious for more. Maybe the flip of her hair or the sparkle of your eye but there seemed to be a connection. It doesn’t take much.
Maybe it is the alcohol or the physical attraction or just some emotional Mojo but you fall in Love. For those of us who fail the logic and perspective of rational decisions fly out the window. Shoot there are a ton of songs written about how we fall or fail.
Looking through some old pictures and with some insightful perspective I ponder the changes Love made in my life. It was a slow progression that might happen to everyone but we just don’t pay attention.
Some relationships were brief and some latest some time, some were intense and some were fairly fleeting. The times they are a’changing and so was the custom of fashion, music, and all the other daily variables that adjust our lifestyles.
Looking back on my second marriage’s photos I see the transformation I didn’t realize at the time, but the history is very transparent. Now remember this girl was a complete stranger to me. I didn’t know anything about her or her family and she didn’t know anything about me. Early on we agreed not to discuss our histories even though some crept through. It is not a bad idea because the person you are with now should not contend with the person’s who were with then. Does that make any sense? Well, it worked for us.
Then you start to see the changes. “Maybe the walls should be painted?” she asked. “What about we move the bedroom into this room?” It all seemed harmless enough but Love can get out of hand.
After one business trip, I arrived home and the kitchen was gone. All the cabinets and counters were torn off the walls and thrown out in the yard. After another business trip, the entire interior of the house was painted white. After another business trip, I come home to the yard being stripped down to the dirt. None of these “projects” were discussed or planned but Love can do that.
All of my clothing had to be removed and hauled away, even though they were wearable and comfortable, but they were of a previous life. The same was true with furniture and even electronics. I purchased more than I could afford and continued to be amazed by the changes everyday but Love can do that.
Relationships, especially two people living in the same space every day, are an experiment. There are no guidelines or rules to follow. Each day is different and the emotional and mental flexibility will bring the couple closer together or push them farther apart.
I’m no expert of that “L” word by any means, but I will throw out these observations. We make changes for the “L” word and whether we are emotional attached or just for whatever comforts us, we adjust.
Then again when you get off the bus and walk down the street and turn the corner and there are red cut out hearts on the sidewalk. A trail of hearts leading down the sidewalk and up the steps to your front door welcomed me home. I’ve never seen anything like that before or since, but life is an adventure. Enjoy the ride.
Too many broken hearts have fallen in the river
Too many lonely souls have drifted out to sea,
You lay your bets and then you pay the price
The things we do for love, the things we do for love.
Communication is the problem to the answer
You've got her number and your hand is on the phone
The weather's turned and all the lines are down
The things we do for love, the things we do for love.
Like walking in the rain and the snow
When there's nowhere to go
And you're feelin' like a part of you is dying
And you're looking for the answer in her eyes.
You think you're gonna break up
Then she says she wants to make up.
Ooh you made me love you
Ooh you've got a way
Ooh you had me crawling up the wall.
Like walking in the rain and the snow
When there's nowhere to go
And you're feelin' like a part of you is dying
And you're looking for the answer in her eyes.
You think you're gonna break up
Then she says she wants to make up.
Ooh you made me love you
Ooh you've got a way
Ooh you had me crawling up the wall.
A compromise would surely help the situation
Agree to disagree but disagree to part
When after all it's just a compromise of
The things we do for love, the things we do for love.... 10CC.

I've been just listening to 10cc...

And I am not sure that "love" makes changing everything in the house around without discussing it, OK...

but we are all different.

You have to keep looking for that balance line that threads among all those things like patience, being enough alike and enough different, where you were and where you're going, what you will compromise on and what you can't, and the positive or harmful influences of others. If you had a good idea of what you're getting into in the first place, it is much less of a struggle to accept someone for what they are. Some can be much more generous in expanding those limits than others.
