The Constituent

Constituency is a body of voters in a specified area who elect a representative to a legislative body.

A constituent is a voting member of a community or organization and has the power to appoint or elect. A constituency is all of the constituents of a representative. Constituents also have the power to remove their representative from the position to which they have appointed him or her. All of the constituents who are registered to vote are called the electorate.

So looking at social media on this holiday of impeaching a president, one forgets ‘We’ are the ‘People’ who vote these representatives into cushy offices with nice salaries to make the laws and write the bills and take so many breaks and holidays that we forget what they do.
If offered a prize, few of ‘We The People’ could rarely remember whom our local officials are, unless they live next door.
We do get those wonderful mailings showing their wonderful families with a list of impossible promises and asking for money. The media advertising gives us a chance for a bathroom break, but the talented ones know how to subliminally get into our psyche so when we are standing in the ballot box choosing A-B or C, we remember the name.

Yet this is how the game is played because we all can’t give our opinions (like social media) and expects decisions to be made.

Soon we will see more strangers’ faces on screen. Two (or maybe three if someone comes out of the woodwork) will stand behind podiums in the variety show called a debate and in a few minutes you can decide. If you are confused, don’t worry. There are lots of people to persuade you. They are even color-coded.

Don’t forget to vote.
